Luxury vinyl flooring: Natural beauty meets the modern world

With a high-end style influenced by wood and stone, combined with durability and waterproof capabilities, luxury vinyl (LVF) is truly an affordable premium product. Sometimes also referred to as luxury vinyl plank flooring (LVP) or LVT flooring, we see it in every room in the house and in some sophisticated homes where once nothing but genuine materials would ever be considered. At Network Interiors, we know that not all vinyl is the same.

Vibrant images, thick vinyl, and strong wear layers

Images are taken with 3D photography and display knots, raised grains, wormholes and veining variations, and vibrant patterns. Embossing and micro-beveling give a three-dimensional quality to the flooring with depth, dimension, and textured appearances. LVF follows all industry trends, whether it’s texturing, gray wooden floors, or marble look-alikes.

LVP is made by cutting the vinyl intro strips and mounting them on boards to mimic hardwood planks or stone slabs. The material can also be cut into square, groutable tile-sized pieces that imitate natural stone or the bold patterns of tile. Although LVP is mainly associated with hardwood, some use planks to echo stone since they feel the large format, fewer seams that look more like a quarried slab. Some prefer the tile-sized pieces, feeling that the extra seams add to the realism.

The material is 100% waterproof, thanks to the vinyl composite core and a multi-layered construction that keeps water from absorbing. LVF is thicker than standard vinyl and should measure at least 8-mm or 9-mm, going as high as 10-mm or 12-mm for vinyl plank. The wear layer, a top, transparent melamine sheet, protect the floor from scratches and scuffs. This should measure at least 20-mils.

Easy cleanability

Regular maintenance will keep the floor looking and functioning well for a long time, and these floors don’t demand much. A daily sweeping and periodic mopping is usually all it requires. Avoid waxy, shine-promoting cleaners as they can hard the urethane finish and dull the floor.

Prevention is always better than treatment, so strategically place outdoor mats at entrances. Accidents happen and when spills do occur, seek the advice of your flooring pro.

Installation can be an uncomplicated floating floor which is click, and hover. The installer may sand the subfloor, however, to be sure imperfections don’t telegraph to the luxury vinyl flooring surface.
